19th Annual

September 15 - 16, 2012
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Pojoaque River Art Tour, a uniquely Northern New Mexico tri-cultural art experience, includes eighteen studio and thirty-seven artists and artisans.

Located approximately sixteen miles north of Santa Fe, the tour takes visitors through artists’ creative nests in the Pueblo of Pojoaque, Nambe, State Highway 503, along County Road 84 (parallels Hwy 502 to Los Alamos) and through the traditional communities of Pojoaque, Jacona, Jaconita and El Rancho. Visitors travel through the eclectic and lovely old farming communities of Pojoaque, and Nambé, a wonderful opportunity for a bike or auto adventure on a fall weekend.

The journey through Pojoaque’s inspired ambience can still be navigated in a single day. As they follow the tour, art-watchers will continue to be rewarded with a wide array of paint and print styles and media, including: contemporary and traditional oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media, assemblage, monotypes, Sumi-e, watercolor, egg tempera, gouache and pastel. Artists and artisans will also unveil original works in photography, jewelry, sculpture, ironwork, woodturning, glass, weaving, and ceramics. Some will be involved in works-in-progress and provide demonstrations.

Casa del Rancho, the beautifully remodeled old El Rancho Bar, now a special events venue, hosts area artists and is the first stop on the tour as well as a map pickup.  Native food will also be served there. Seniors of the Pojoaque Valley will sell crafts and baked goods at the El Rancho Community Center, directly west of Casa del Rancho on County Road 84.  Gallery artists will be hosted by Estrella Del Norte Vineyard's new gallery, vineyard and winery in Nambe, a perfect end point for a beautiful day.

Tour maps are available at Santa Fe hotels and  B & B’s, and posters picturing representative work shown at each studio can be found at the Casa Del Rancho (off Hwy 502), opposite the El Rancho Community Center, Artisan's Art Expo at Buffalo Thunder Resort in the registration area, and Estrella del Norte Winery, or follow the yellow and black highway signs and obtain maps at artists' studios.
